In this sense it differs from a cenotaph, which is at empty tomb. Permanent landmarks established for the purpose of ascertaining boundaries. Monuments may be either natural or artificial objects, as rivers, known streams, springs, or marked trees. Even posts set up at the corners are considered as monuments.
