词汇 | Monument |
释义 | `1`Monument `2` "Legal Lexicon": MONUMENT - A thing intended to transmit to posterity the memory of some one; it is used, also, to signify a tomb where a dead body has been deposited. In this sense it differs from a cenotaph, which is at empty tomb. Permanent landmarks established for the purpose of ascertaining boundaries. Monuments may be either natural or artificial objects, as rivers, known streams, springs, or marked trees. Even posts set up at the corners are considered as monuments. When monuments are established, they must govern, although neither courses, nor distances, nor 'computed' contents correspond. --b-- |
