未成年身份证有效期是五年。
身份证过期后，补办流程如下：
1、到居住地公安机关异地申领居民身份证，填写异地居民身份证登记表；
2、申请补办证件时，需携带户口簿或居住证支付证件费用；
3、异地受理身份证受理并申请补办，然后将信息发送至申请人户籍所在地公安机关，由户籍所在地县级公安机关及时核发；
4、居住地公安机关收到经审核出具的制证信息后，应当在法定期限内完成制证、核发，申请人凭证照到受理点领取。
身份证非常重要，需要了解其中需要注意的地方：
1、公民应当依法申请领取、换领、补领居民身份证；
2、公民应当依法使用居民身份证，不得出租、出借、转让居民身份证；
3、公民应当增强居民身份证安全保护意识，妥善保管居民身份证，防止丢失、被盗；
4、登记指纹信息的居民身份证可以有效防止被他人冒用，有利于保护公民个人信息安全，有利于社会信用体系建设，公民可积极主动到公安机关申请换领登记指纹信息的居民身份证。

《中华人民共和国居民身份证法》
第三条 居民身份证登记的项目包括：姓名、性别、民族、出生日期、常住户口所在地住址、公民身份号码、本人相片、指纹信息、证件的有效期和签发机关。
公民身份号码是每个公民唯一的、终身不变的身份代码，由公安机关按照公民身份号码国家标准编制。
公民申请领取、换领、补领居民身份证，应当登记指纹信息。第四条 居民身份证使用规范汉字和符合国家标准的数字符号填写。
民族自治地方的自治机关根据本地区的实际情况，对居民身份证用汉字登记的内容，可以决定同时使用实行区域自治的民族的文字或者选用一种当地通用的文字。
