释义	法律分析：居民可以向民政部门申请并且需要提供相应的救助申请和证件。法律依据：《社会救助暂行办法》第四十条城镇家庭申请住房救助的，应当经由乡镇人民政府、街道办事处或者直接向县级人民政府住房保障部门提出，经县级人民政府民政部门审核家庭收入、财产状况和县级人民政府住房保障部门审核家庭住房状况并公示后，对符合申请条件的申请人，由县级人民政府住房保障部门优先给予保障。农村家庭申请住房救助的，按照县级以上人民政府有关规定执行。
