特殊工种是指井下、高空、高温、特别繁重体力劳动和其他有害身体健康的工种。
【法律依据】：
《关于改由各主管部门审批提前退休工种的通知》 从事井下、高空、高温、特别繁重体力劳动或者其他有害身体健康工作的工人，无论现在或过去从事这类工作，凡符合下列条件之一者，均可以按照国务院《关于工人退休、退职的暂行办法》第一条第二款从事高空和特别繁重体力劳动工作累计满10年的;从事井下、高温工作累计满9年的;从事其有害身体健康工作累计满8年的。
