买房定金交了后不想买了,是需要交违约金

不需要,但是定金无法要回。定金和违约金在合同中并存的情况集中在商品房买卖及建设工程两种合同金额较大的合同中，作为合同顺利履行的一种担保形式，有利于约束合同双方的行为，但在其他形式的合同中较少同时出现。
法律依据：
《中华人民共和国民法典》 第五百八十八条 当事人既约定违约金，又约定定金的，一方违约时，对方可以选择适用违约金或者定金条款。定金不足以弥补一方违约造成的损失的，对方可以请求赔偿超过定金数额的损失。
