释义	船舶优先权催告是指海事法院根据船舶受让人的申请，以公示的方法，催促船舶优先权人于一定期间内主张其优先权;若不依法主张的，则该船舶上的优先权消灭，该优先权所担保的债权则成为普通债权。买方很难知道其所买的船舶是否附有船舶优先权，于是申请法院作出公示催告： (1)催促船舶优先权人主张权利，以明确船舶是否附有优先权; (2)若催告期间无人主张船舶优先权，申请人可申请法院作出除权判决，消灭船舶上的优先权。
