灵活就业人员的基本养老保险分为九个档次，参保人员可按照当地上年度在岗职工月平均工资的60％、70％、80％、90％、100％、150％、200％、250％、300％等档次，根据本人的经济承受能力灵活选择其中任意一个档次作为缴费基数，然后按比例缴费。有单位的职工缴纳养老保险时，单位会为他缴纳20％、职工本人只要承担8％就行了，其中职工的缴费全部进入了个人账户。
