词汇 | separation |
释义 | `1`separation `2` "Nolo Everybody's Legal Dictionary": Generally, a situation in which the partners in a married couple live apart. There are many types of separation in the view of the law. A trial separation occurs when a couple lives apart for a test period in order to see if they want to call it quits or get back together. Spouses are said to be living apart if they no longer reside in the same dwelling, even though they may continue their relationship. A permanent separation occurs once the couple decides to split up, and any property or debts acquired by a spouse after permanent separation is his or her separate property. A legal separation results when the parties separate and a court rules on the division of property, such as alimony or child support -- but does not grant a divorce. Legal separation is most often a substitute for divorce that occurs when there is a religious objection to divorce, or when the couple must remain married for one spouse to receive medical insurance.
