INFORMATION - Formal accusation of a crime made by a prosecuting attorney as distinguished from an indictment presented by a grand jury. (2)Any book, paper, document, record, recording, or other material. 18 U.S.C. An information is a written accusation of crime made by a district attorney, without action by a grand jury, after a magistrate, at a preliminary hearing, has found sufficient cause to believe the defendant guilty of a public offense and has ordered him committed.
