小孩坐高铁所需证件因年龄和身高而异，具体而言：未满16岁，身高不到1.2米的儿童，乘座高铁时，不需要买票，也不需要任何证件，但是需要有同行者的身份证信息。 未满16岁，身高在1.2米到1.5米之间的儿童，乘座高铁时，需要凭借户口本上的身份证号码，购买半票。未满16岁，身高超过1.5米的儿童，乘座高铁时，需要凭借户口本上的身份证号码，购买全票。目前在铁路售票窗口购买实名制车票时，儿童票不实行实名制，在网上购买儿童票时，儿童的有效身份证件可添加为常用联系人身份信息即可购票。
法律依据：
铁道部下发的《铁路旅客运输规程》 第十九条 承运人一般不接受儿童单独旅行（乘火车通学的学生和承运人同意在旅途中监护的除外）。随同成年人旅行身高1.2-1.5米的儿童，享受半价客票、加快票和空调票（以下简称儿童票）。超过1.5米时应买全价票。每一成人旅客可免费携带一名身高不足1.2米的儿童，超过一名时，超过的人数应买儿童票。儿童票的座别应与成人车票相同，其到站不得远于成人车票的到站。
免费乘车的儿童单独使用卧铺时，应购买全价卧铺票，有空调时还应购买半价空调票。
